Dear Fellow Rotarians:
What an exciting year so far! Is the year flying by for you, too?
If you're reading this, then we have successfully transmitted the District Governor Newsletter to our 60 Club Presidents and District Leadership as an e-Newsletter! We hope you will forward it to your membership.
The three District goals for the year are:
- Ensure every club participates in an international service project
- Ensure every club nets one new member for the year
- Invest $1 million in The Rotary Foundation
Our District has our very own Peace Scholar! She just received the official letter. Our congratulations go out to Jeniece Olsen, who has been selected as a World Peace Scholar for 2008-2010 to attend the University of Queensland as part of the Rotary Centers for International Studies in the peace and conflict resolution program. Big thanks to Michael Cavitt, the Minneapolis South President who helped her through the process. Read more about our Peace Scholar and the process in an upcoming issue.
Thinking of traveling to South Africa on a Safari? How about with a bunch of fun Rotarians? The Polokwane District 9250 of South Africa welcomes you to a Safari planned just for you! We've had Rotarians from our District on this trip in the past and they loved it. Click here for more information.
The $25,000 Challenge: Do we have any money left? You bet! Please encourage all of your members who have never given to The Rotary Foundation to use this as their opportunity. We will match their gift (minimum of $200 and maximum of $500) dollar for dollar to The Rotary Foundation. If this Rotarian gives $500, we will match it with $500, allowing them to become an immediate Paul Harris Fellow. Click here for more information.
Group Study Exchange: We have selected the five members of our Outbound Team heading for Finland. Click here for an update on this year's GSE Programs. If your club is interested in helping with the inbound team from Finland, email Tim Kudalis at timkudalis@comcast.net.
Should your Rotary Club have Directors' and Officers' Insurance? Click here for more information. You will need to log in to the Member Center and choose "Operations & IRS Reporting."
President-Elect Training Seminar has been set for March 14 and 15 at Oak Ridge Conference Center in Chaska. All presidents for next year MUST attend. We promise to make it every bit as fun and exciting as last year. Ask your president from last year – I don't think they would want you to miss it! You owe it to your club to be the best president you can be.
The District Conference will be held Friday, April 25 through Sunday, April 27, at Arrowwood Conference Center and Resort in beautiful Alexandria. We promise a fun-filled weekend for the whole family, including waterpark, pizza parties and bonfires for kids, fabulous speakers for the Rotarian and non-Rotarian, a full agenda of outside activities, including winery tours and a tour of the Tastefully Simple home office. We don't want you to miss it. You must reserve a hotel room and register for the conference. Click here for District Conference and registration information.

The Rotary Foundation
By Jeff Ohe
What is the Paul Harris Society?
The Paul Harris Society is a special district recognition program designed for Rotarians who wish to support The Rotary Foundation in a more substantial way each year. The Paul Harris Society recognizes Rotarians who annually contribute $1,000 or more to the Annual Programs Fund, PolioPlus or the Humanitarian Grants Program. Click here to find out more!
Your annual contribution of $1,000 can help provide:
- A well for clean water to a community in India
- Equipment for a children's library in Ecuador
- Polio vaccine for numerous children
- Eyeglasses for needy adults in the Philippines
- Funding for a portion of a Group Study Exchange
Fill out this form and mail it to Jeff Ohe (address on the form) to join the Paul Harris Society! You will receive a lapel pin and recognition at the District Conference in April.
Thank you for your ongoing support of The Rotary Foundation.

District Communications
By Jennifer Bennerotte
Rotary District 5950 has applied to Rotary International for a $6,000 Public Relations grant. The District should know soon if the grant has been approved.
The $6,000 will be used toward a $30,000 campaign to launch in the spring of 2008. To attract young professionals, particularly women, to the Rotary clubs within the District, the campaign theme will be "It's Not Just Your Father's Rotary."
Similar to the black-and-white design of Rotary International's "We all want the same thing" peace ads, the campaign images will be black and white and will feature the faces of some of the women Rotarians in District 5950. The only colorized piece will be the Rotary wheel. The headline will be "It's Not Just Your Father's Rotary," followed by "Make a Difference. Join Us" and a website address.
The April campaign will include print advertisements, shopping mall directory placements and billboards throughout the District. Each Club within the District will be encouraged to financially support the campaign.
The Public Relations Committee is also beginning work on several other exciting initiatives. If you would like to be part of the planning process, please join a Blue Ribbon Task Force. Volunteer by writing to Jennifer Bennerotte, jbennerotte@ci.edina.mn.us, of the Rotary Club of Edina.

District Speakers Directory
By Karin Trieber
All of us like to rave about a great program we heard at our weekly Rotary meeting. As the District Program Chair for 07-08, I would like to urge you to post it to the District Speaker Directory or send a quick email message to me with the details! Programs will be listed in the District Speaker Directory so that when another club needs a program, your idea will be included with the source of ideas that we will be building through the year.
To access the speakers directory visit the 5950 Member Center.
