Hi! We’re glad you’re checking out our Rotary club!

Daymakers Rotary Club was formed in 1995 and has maintained the image our founders shaped at that time. We’re a relatively small club (about 30) with a big heart. We take the goal of “Service above Self” seriously and we do that while genuinely enjoying camaraderie with other club members at our regular meetings and at service and social events. We have a nice mix of younger and less young members.

We serve others in a variety of ways. You’ll find more about us at http://www.daymakers.org/ but let me give you a few highlights. Daymakers have chosen to focus many of our serving and donating efforts on youth. We do so locally through a youth academic and attendance mentoring program at Bloomington’s Jefferson High School and through a growing Bloomington Job Fair that brings high school youth and employers together. We also support a Bring Your Kid to Vote program, Tom Burnett Day, and an academic high school student achievement awards banquet. Our youth focus expands internationally to help young people in Afghanistan by donating to a girls school. We of course support other programs. Two examples are VEAP (Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People---serving low income families) and Feed My Starving Children (we help bag nutritious meal ingredients that are shipped to nations needing such support).

Daymakers actively support the efforts of Rotary International to foster good ethical behavior in the workplace and beyond through club programs and, along with 6 other Area 3 clubs, a Vocational Ethics Day luncheon and program. We also participate in the annual Veteran’s Day Luncheon each November to honor America’s service persons.

If you come to the Park Plaza just north of I-494 (between France and Highway 100) on a Friday morning you’ll find a welcoming reception. You’ll hear laughter. You’ll hear us share “happy bucks” as we describe things in our lives that make us happy (the money goes to VEAP). You’ll perhaps hear us talking about ways we help each other out as we face difficult life events or need collegial support in some other way. One of our recent presidents, Larry Boatman, got us to realize our Daymaker Rotary meetings were the “best place to start our weekends”.

We invite you to start your weekends with us, whether as a Rotarian “make-up” or to see if you’d like to join our club. Come by about 7:15 a.m. or so to get a light breakfast. We start at 7:29 with our meeting ending promptly at 8:30. Club members take turns finding speakers and we have great, interesting presentations. You’ll find directions to Park Plaza at http://www.daymakers.org/ ---lots of parking on north side of the hotel.
